A Design Overhaul Is On Its Way

A Design Overhaul Is On Its Way

Will Apple finally secure a win and revive its reputation as a creative powerhouse? That remains to be seen at WWDC 2025.

One major developer conference done, another one to go. Now that we’ve seen everything that Google is working on this year, we’re diving straight into the WWDC 2025 prediction on what Apple will bring to the table this time. The Worldwide Developers Conference was a big hit among fans last time, even though the tech giant has since failed to deliver on some of the promises that were made in the following months.

With the next conference, Apple Intelligence will continue to remain central to the company’s announcements, but we expect to hear more about the iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 overhaul that has been prophesied. A redesigned interface would be a refreshing change if Apple really commits to the overhaul, especially when Android users are chirping with excitement over the Material 3 Expressive redesign promised with Android 16.

Apple WWDC 2025 is scheduled between June 9 and 13 so we have just about two weeks to go. Let’s dive into some predictions and expectations surrounding the upcoming event.

Apple WWDC 2025 Predictions—What Will the Cupertino Company Serve Up This Time?

All the early rumors about the iOS 19 WWDC 2025 debut suggest that the company has really explored how it can improve its interface, and visually redesigned the space in a way that sets it apart from previous iterations. The last OS version update was extremely underwhelming, but it did give users hope that Apple was saving up all of its biggest changes for the upcoming version of the operating system.

The possibility of round-ish icons has fans at the edge of their seats, even though it doesn’t sound like the most exciting of changes. WWDC 2025 predictions also suggest that the software changes that are to be announced will take inspiration from the company’s mixed reality headset, which again doesn’t tell us too much about just what to expect. Here’s what we think will be included in the WWDC 2025 announcements.

iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 Redesigned for You

Just as we’d mentioned earlier, the iOS 19 version to be announced at WWDC 2025 is expected to feature a visionOS aesthetic, which could mean glass-like, translucent interface elements, frosted menus, floating tab views, and updated iconography. Chasing a more cohesive aesthetic across the Apple Ecosystem, the company is expected to make the most dramatic update to the UI since iOS 7.

Internal apps like the Camera, Mail, and Notes are due for an update and could embrace a new visionOS-inspired look as well. We also expect these design changes will make their way across macOS 16, tvOS, and watchOS 12, so we’re all set for a real revamp.

Apple Intelligence at WWDC is Guaranteed

There is no doubt in our minds that Apple will make mention of its in-house artificial intelligence systems, which may or may not feature the updated Siri that was promised last year. It’s most likely that the Siri upgrade will be saved for later, and the conference will showcase some text and image generation capabilities and app integrations across the device.

AI personalization could be a big part of the deal, but we’ll have to wait to hear more from the company. One possible application of this that has been rumored is an AI-powered health coach for advice on how to improve your quality of life. If it tells us to bring down our smartphone usage and step into the sun every once in a while, we’ll be both offended and unimpressed.

Privacy and Functionality

One thing Apple takes very seriously is the security of its devices and the privacy features that keep data safe. Rumors point to enhanced privacy features and new functionalities that add to the app locking and hiding functions introduced with iOS 18. Apple has also been focusing on accessibility in a way that has impressed us in the past, and we could see more of that this time.

Battery Management Could Get an Upgrade at WWDC 2025

Another one of the key WWDC 2025 expectations is that the company will use Apple Intelligence to help optimize the battery of its devices. Reports suggest the feature could analyze how you use your phone and then make adjustments internally to better save on power. With the thin iPhone Air looming on the horizon, this could be really helpful on a smartphone we’re sure will compromise on battery life.

A Moment to Talk About VisionOS 3

For the Apple Vision Pro, visionOS 3 is expected to introduce new spatial computing features, such as improved 2D-to-3D photo conversion, larger virtual displays (equivalent to two 4K monitors), and enhanced third-party app support. New APIs and frameworks will likely be introduced to get more developers to create and customize apps for the Vision Pro.

Hardware Announcements Will Not Take the Front Seat

The early WWDC 2025 predictions have very little to say on the matter of hardware. The Apple conference is a software and developer-focused one so this is unsurprising. Still, Apple may give us a glimpse into exclusive features for the iPhone 17 lineup. We could also see a teaser for the rumored Home Hub the company is working on as well as the Mac Pro with the M3 Extreme chip.

Apple Vision Pro updates—other than OS enhancements—are also unlikely as the company isn’t looking to release another headset this year, and while many are hopeful, other potential gadgets like smart glasses, smart rings, or flip phones are also not on the cards.

Apple Will Perhaps Be More Cautious About Making Promises at WWDC 2025

We are surprisingly low on WWDC 2025 predictions because the company hasn’t been very forthcoming about potential projects that are under development or software upgrades that could starkly change how we use its devices. We expect that the company will focus on developers and how they can make the most of its spatial computing headset or its internal operating systems, but we don’t expect too many big surprises.

The WWDC 2025 announcements will likely follow a more cautious route than a grandiose, over-optimistic one, considering the backlash from failing on last year’s promises. Now the WWDC 2025 keynote and Platforms State of the Union will be streamed live on Apple’s website, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and YouTube, with on-demand playback available afterward. If you’re planning to tune in on June 9, 2025, make sure to keep your expectations low but don’t write the company off just yet. Apple may still have some unique cards up its sleeves.
