Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 Is Releasing Soon—What You Need to Know
NetEase Games released Marvel Rivals on December 6, 2024, and the game quickly rose to the top as one of the most fun, must-play experiences for superhero fans. The free-to-play third-person shooter action game is available on multiple platforms, so you can experience it on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as well. The title has stayed fresh in the minds of gamers despite some big releases this year, and it’s largely thanks to the popularity of superheroes and the ability of the game to bring together the most unlikely of names.
With Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 releasing on May 30, gamers have a truckload of content to look forward to experiencing and mastering. The slew of changes show NetEase’s commitment to its promise of regularly updating the game and bringing in fresh content, so you won’t hear us complaining about the alterations that are set to arrive shortly.
Marvel Rivals Ultron Update: A New Playable Hero Floats Down From the Skies
As the 39th playable character to make it to the roster, Ultron joins Marvel Rivals as a Strategist support character, bringing in healing abilities while also dealing significant damage with his energy beams, or Encephalo-Ray. The first flying support hero to join the game, his Rage of Ultron ultimate ability can summon drones to heal allies or attack enemies.
His free-flight mode should be fun to play around with, but we’re more excited to see his Nano-Ray team-up ability with another flight-enabled character, Iron Man. AI this, AI that—Marvel Rival knows that if it’s not Ultron, we don’t want it. Unless it’s Jarvis, then maybe we want it around.
There’s a New Map On Its Way
To better set the mood for the Ultron reveal, Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 will feature the Arakko map, transformed by Ultron into his mechanized, lifeless headquarters. This payload-style map has a unique aesthetic tied in with the game’s lore as Krakoa’s sister island. This stronghold should present some new and interesting landscapes for players to explore.

The Ultron-Iron Man team up will present a fun challenge to enjoy.
Team-Up Ability Changes Incoming
The Marvel Rivals patch notes mention new team-up abilities, six to be precise, but there are also a few team-ups that are on their way out. Make the most of the exiting teams while you wait for the new ones to go into effect with the new update.
- Jeff-nado (Storm and Jeff the Land Shark)
- Operation: Microchip (The Punisher and Black Widow)
- Chilling Assault (Luna Snow and Hawkeye)
- Rocket Network (Rocket Raccoon and Peni Parker)
- Stark Protocol (Iron Man and Ultron)
- Symbiote Shenanigans (Venom and Jeff the Land Shark)
There are five team-ups that are either being removed or altered:
- Chilling Charisma (Luna Snow and Jeff the Land Shark)
- Gamma Charge (Hulk and Iron Man)
- Allied Agents (Hawkeye and Black Widow)
- Ammo Overload (Rocket Raccoon and The Punisher)
- Symbiote Bond (Venom and Peni Parker/Spider-Man)
New Ultron-Inspired Game Mode
A new limited-time solo mode is expected to launch on June 6, 2025. This has been described as an auto-chess or autobattler-inspired experience. Players will be able to select six heroes, customize their traits, and position them on a grid-style map for strategic battles. Not all heroes will be available in this mode at launch, but it should be interesting nonetheless.

Buffs and Nerfs—What You Need to Be Prepared for in Marvel Rivals Season 2.5
As much as the upcoming season is about new content, it is also about balancing out both overpowered and underperforming characters. The new Marvel Rivals balance patch may disappoint many gamers who have enjoyed capitalizing on the strengths of their favorite heroes, an unbalanced game can get boring very quickly once you tire of your preferred characters.
For the buffs, characters like Hawkeye, Punisher, Namor, and Squirrel Girl are set to see many upgrades to the powers with increased capacities, reduced cooldowns, and other changes that will make them more playable. Magneto and Dr. Strange are also expected to see some improvements.
For the nerfs coming with the Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 release, the list is longer, with Captain America, Groot, Thor, Emma Frost, Psylocke, Human Torch, and Iron Fist set to see some balancing. Characters like Jeff the Land Shark and Luna Snow are expected to see some character adjustments as well.
Excited for Marvel Rivals’ May 30 Patch?
The new Ultron update for Marvel Rivals is set to debut in style with the character and game mode and there’s a lot of testing that will go into seeing how they perform. The removed team-up abilities and nerfs may hurt some, but there’s more than enough to do with the new teams that you won’t feel too down for long.
According to the Marvel Rivals patch details, the new season is scheduled to arrive on May 30, 2025, and there will be a brief downtime maintenance period at 2 AM PT before the new content is available. Make sure to give it about three hours before you can leap back into the game, and you should be set for the weekend.
