Dembele Merendah Soal Jadi Favorit Pemenang Ballon d’Or

    Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Bintang Paris Saint-Germain, Ousmane Dembele memilih merendah soal dirinya jadi favorit pemenang Ballon d’Or musim ini.

King’s Birthday Honours list 2025: David Beckham awarded knighthood while Luke Littler receives MBE | Football News

David Beckham has been awarded a knighthood in the King’s Birthday Honours.

The former England captain has been recognised for both his career as a footballer and his services to charity.

Beckham began his football career at Manchester United, where he made 394 appearances and scored 85 goals, before going on to play for Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

He made 115 appearances for England, the third-highest of any senior men’s player, and captained his country 59 times.

Beckham has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2005, and he also established the 7 Fund aimed at helping vulnerable children around the world.

He supports a number of charities, including the Chelsea Pensioners, Help for Heroes, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Age UK and the London Air Ambulance service.

Luke Littler has been awarded an MBE for services to darts. The 18-year-old is currently the world No 2 and the reigning world champion, the youngest in the sport’s history.

Littler has won two World Series of Darts titles, 13 PDC titles and five major titles in his professional career. He is also the youngest player to hit a televised nine-dart finish.

Littler’s rival, Luke Humphries, has also been awarded an MBE for services to darts. He is the world No 1 and former world champion, having won the title in 2024.

The 30-year-old is also the reigning World Matchplay, Premier League, Players Championship Finals and World Masters champion.

Billy Boston, 90, has become the first rugby league player to receive a knighthood. Boston is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest ever players having scored 571 tries in his career, placing him as the second-highest try scorer in history.

Born in Cardiff, Boston spent 15 years playing for Wigan, scoring a club-record 478 tries in 488 appearances before finishing his career with Blackpool Borough, retiring in 1970.

He also played 31 times for Great Britain, scoring 24 tries and winning the 1960 World Cup.

Virginia Wade has received a CBE for services to tennis and charity. The 79-year-old won three major singles championships – the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon – and four major doubles titles.

Wade is the only British woman to have won titles at all four majors and was ranked as the world No 2 in singles and No 1 in doubles.

Wade serves as a patron for the charity Leadership Through Sport and is a director for Compton’s Yard Charitable Trust.

Aston Villa forward Rachel Daly has been awarded an MBE for services to football. Daly holds the joint record for the most goals in a Women’s Super League season with 22 and has won the WSL golden boot, PFA women’s players’ player of the year and player of the season awards, all in the 2022/23 season.

The 33-year-old has played 84 times for England, scoring 16 goals, and was part of the squad that won the Women’s European Championships in 2022.

Other sports stars to be recognised include two-time Olympic triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee, who has been awarded an OBE; while MBEs have been awarded to two-weight boxing world champion Natasha Jonas, former Gloucestershire bowler David Lawrence, who took 625 wickets for the county, and former golfer and Sky Sports pundit Trish Johnson.

Bryan Henderson, head of cricket and NFL at Sky Sports, has been awarded an MBE for services to cricket.

Henderson and Sanjay Patel, the former managing director of The Hundred, were heavily responsible for the planning and delivery of the short-format cricket tournament. The competition will this year deliver hundreds of millions of pounds to the game from the sale of the teams.

“I’m very honoured and humbled,” said Henderson. “It’s a tribute to all the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to work with at Sky and in the sport I love.”

Patel added: “I feel very privileged to receive this award and to be given the opportunity to work in a sport that I love. I would like to thank the people who supported me and in particular the great team who helped build The Hundred.”

Over a thousand recipients have been awarded for their exceptional achievements, with a particular focus on those who have given their time to public service.

This year’s recipients include dedicated community champions, role models in sport, pioneers in the arts, passionate health workers, and supporters of young people.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “This year’s Birthday Honours List is a powerful reminder of the extraordinary dedication, compassion and service that exists in every corner of our country.

“From community champions to cultural icons, each recipient reflects the very best of Britain. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to them all.”

  • ‘It’s very easy to make yourself appear like Bono’: Warren Ellis on opening an animal sanctuary in Sumatra | Film

‘It’s very easy to make yourself appear like Bono’: Warren Ellis on opening an animal sanctuary in Sumatra | Film

When the pandemic forced musicians all over the world to cancel tours, Warren Ellis decided to take his career in a new direction. From the bounds of his home he co-founded an animal sanctuary in Sumatra, Indonesia.

In 2021 the Dirty Three virtuoso and Nick Cave collaborator was introduced to the veteran animal rights activist Femke den Haas. Together they established the centre for old, disabled and displaced animals who couldn’t be released into the wild.

The sanctuary – Ellis Park – now lends its name to a documentary by the True History of the Kelly Gang film-maker Justin Kurzel: a stirring portrait of the park’s inhabitants and dedicated caretakers.

Immortalising Ellis’s poignant first visit to the park in 2023, the documentary traverses the lush vegetation of Sumatra and ventures to Ellis’s home town, Ballarat, and his studio in Paris, offering a glimpse into the life of a famously private Australian musician.

“I was very concerned at one point when we had half filmed it, and tried to get it stopped,” he says.

Kurzel first heard about sanctuary during a catchup with Ellis at the 2021 Cannes film festival. “Justin said to me, ‘I’m curious why you did it and I think the answer’s back where you were born,’” Ellis says.

‘I never thought I’d put that much of myself in there,’ Ellis says of the film. Photograph: Madman Entertainment

Returning to the schoolyard of his childhood and to his parents’ home, the film’s first half shows Ellis reckoning with his past in real time. In striking, intimate vignettes, he reflects on the indelible influence of his father – a musician who sacrificed the seeds of his dream career to care for his young family, and who taught Ellis songwriting by singing verses from poetry books. “We filmed in there four days before the whole family disintegrated,” Ellis says, recalling his parents’ ill health and his father’s eventual death.

“I never thought I’d put that much of myself in [the film], and, as it transpired, the camera was on me when there were some big life things going on.”

It was a conversation with a film-maker and fellow Cave accomplice, Andrew Dominik, that soothed Ellis’s anxieties about being overexposed. “If you’re going to get something from it,” Dominik told him, “you’ve got to open yourself up to the process.”

When Ellis met Den Haas, the latter was running the Sumatra Wildlife Center, a “tiny” reserve that provided vital rehabilitation to injured wildlife, especially victims of abuse and the illegal exotic pet trade. During their first conversation, Den Haas told Ellis about a 5,000 sq m plot of land neighbouring the centre. He immediately promised to buy it and donate the land to provide essential housing for unreleasable animals.

“He said, ‘Doubts are toxic. There are no doubts; we just do it,’” Den Haas remembers. “Within two weeks, we started to look at the land and make the deal with the landowners.”

Within three or four months, the centre’s size had increased fivefold and the sanctuary was operational. About this time 1,300 trafficked animals were confiscated nearby.

For Den Haas, the timing was “magical”. With the sanctuary up and running, her team now had the resources to offer these animals – many of them captured in Africa – life-saving veterinary care and shelter.

Ellis with the staff of Ellis Park. Working on the film, he says, meant ‘doing your thing for a common cause’. Photograph: Madman Entertainment

Ellis Park provides a window into the lives of these animals and their caretakers, introduced in balletic, slow-motion closeups thanks to the deft, unobtrusive work of its cinematographer, Germain McMicking. “Not once was his presence felt; he just dances around everything,” Ellis says.

    skip past newsletter promotion

While Den Haas has previously protected the animals from overreaching film crews, she appreciated the sensitivity of Kurzel’s team. “They really came and filmed things how they were … And when you’re watching the film, you get to see [the animals’] emotions and understand they’re all individuals and have a unique and horrific background.”

Ellis was conscious of the risks involved in documenting his own philanthropy: “The problem is, it’s very easy to make yourself appear a Bono-like character who’s just grandstanding.”

Upon his arrival in Sumatra, Den Haas welcomes him with open arms, inviting him to release an eagle rehabilitated by the centre. For Ellis, this posed a dilemma: he didn’t want to “look like some privileged guy that has built an animal sanctuary [to] blow out the candles [when] it’s not even my birthday”.

Den Haas at the growing sanctuary. Photograph: Madman Entertainment

But with Den Haas’s coaxing, Ellis accepts the honour in the film’s moving climax. “He didn’t want to be in the spotlight, like, here’s the guy that made it all possible,” Den Haas says. “But he did make it all possible.”

Ellis describes the film as an “accident” that developed organically through his trust in Kurzel. Accordingly, the documentary has a living quality. The score – by Ellis, of course – was recorded as it was made, with the musician shown tinkering on his violin in paddocks and monkey cages, as well as improvising in the studio. These images cede to scenes shot in Sumatra while the embryonic music lingers – a reflection of the sanctuary’s evolving form.

Working on a film “enables you to step out of that protective comfort zone that a band allows you to have and just do your thing for a common cause”, says Ellis, for whom “preciousness” is a young person’s game.

This common cause is clear in Ellis Park. Since the film was shot, the sanctuary has received an influx of bear cubs and baby gibbons whose mothers have been killed or injured by perpetrators of the illegal pet trade. Den Haas hopes it will soon shelter the bears in forested enclosures.

The sanctuary is still growing, and so is Ellis. “You know, I went over there expecting the film to be about abused monkeys and primates and birds,” he says, “and I left there realising the most extraordinary animals are people.”

  • Building passionate fan communities, Mac Slavin

Building passionate fan communities, Mac Slavin

This transcript has been lightly edited by AI

Sean: I guess the takeaway that I have is that you know, every team. I like to say team rather than brand because I think sports is different. And you know, trading the PBR stuff as a team. Like, the core fans, the fans that are in and the fans then that adopt the digital platforms, you know, whichever ones they are they are very similar, like they’re just as passionate, they comment as much or they retweet and you sort of develop that you know, what I call your digital cheer squad, the people that when you know you put a tweet out they’ll retweet it or they will adopt a hashtag quickly or, you know, you say, “Hey, take a photo from the stands.” And they do that. I think the really interesting bit is the stuff you talking about before as  you’re transitioning a team to go to a newer market, that’s when you’re in that educational piece of, “Well, we’ve got to teach people about how awesome our sport is or how awesome it is.” Which you’re still doing now, “How awesome it is to be at Comerica Park.” Because you’ve got a lot of people.

    Mac: Exactly.

Sean: You’re still in that education piece of, “I’m going to show Comerica Park in the best light possible. We’re going to make sure our Instagram’s are 11 out of 10.” But then you’re also leaning on that digital cheer squad to amplify that and promote that to their friends. And that’s where I also see similarities in fan groups. So yes, you know. PBR might have a mid-Western demographic in Texas and they might always, you know, they might always be wearing cowboy boots and be different to the fan that’s the Tigers fan, but when you get down to their core and you strip away some of the demo stuff. Their actions and the way that they move and the way that they promote and the way that they I guess interact with the team. I find that to be very similar and that’s where I’ve been able to, you know, take. You know, I have used the phrase on this podcast before, “Steal with pride.” You know, something that you’ve done really well over here with PBR can be applied and twisted and done the Tiger way, and then you know, you can apply to your fans because you know, they move in the same manner. And so, you know, that’s why I’m always interested in seeing, you know, talking to whether it be a music promoter or someone with a different brand and saying, “Well, what works with you and your fans?” Because elements of that or pieces of that will work with other fan groups. And so I think it’s always good to be seeing what other fan groups how they’re reacting to things and seeing how then you can apply it to yours.

**Mac:** One of the things I love about sports, I thought you know, some of my other friends work in social for other brands and they are always talking about brand ambassadors and how they’re trying to get more brand ambassadors and things like that. And to be honest, in sports your biggest brand ambassadors are your biggest fans. You know, they’re the ones that are just stoked and ready to go, and they’re, you know, for us they’re die hard Tigers fans or any other team, that type of thing. You said they’ll share, they’ll amplify, they’ll go nuts and you can’t ask for more from a social standpoint.

Sean: Yeah, I mean that’s so true. And you know, I’ve spoken to a few people that you know, work in sports like yourself. You know, long hours, weekends, and all the things that come with sports and then I’ve had people say, “Oh, I think I’m going to go to a corporate job and work in that digital space.” And you know talking to your friends who are in that space outside the world of sports, it’s really tough. You get one, you’ve got to find those brand ambassadors and no one puts their hand up and says, “I love my bank.”  And then the other thing is you don’t have this, you know, never ending supply of killer content. You know that all you’ve got to do is have a gif of a home run shot and there you go, you know? You can just sit back and watch the engagement come through. That’s, you know, that’s the really tough thing for corporate digital marketers to go, “How do we engage people?” And so you sort of get a free, you know, you get a free pass on that to a certain degree. Still got to work to get the right content, the right platform, all of those things but you get a free pass with that with sports and that’s something that’s a big advantage with working in sports.

Mac: Yeah, I mean, you know, part of social, especially digital we always talk about, you know, the digital story or the social storytelling that you’re doing, and from a sports standpoint, you know, your stories always right in front of you. It could be something, you know, whether it’s four generations of fans at the ballpark, whether it’s physically what’s happening on the field, or maybe it’s, you know, you even have an usher that has a really cool story. There’s always kind of that story in front of you. It’s you’re more so trying to find that story. Sometimes it’s, you know, a little more in front of you and not like in the case of a home run or something like that but rather than making up, you know, big brands are not making up stories but they’re trying to pull some stories out of thin air and, you know, not that it’s…I don’t want to say it’s easier said than done, but personally, I just think it’s a lot more fun to do it that way.

Sources – Florida gets commitment from 5-star DE JaReylan McCoy

Five-star defensive end JaReylan McCoy has committed to Florida, sources told ESPN on Saturday, securing his place as the top-ranked pledge in the Gators’ 2026 recruiting class after returning for a second visit in the span of three weeks.

McCoy, a 6-foot-7, 260-pound rusher from Tupelo, Mississippi, is ESPN’s No. 9 overall prospect and the nation’s second-ranked defender in the current cycle.

Initially committed to LSU, McCoy reopened his recruitment in February and trimmed his finalists to Florida, LSU and Texas last month before his process swung on an official visit with the Gators from May 30 to June 1.

Sources said McCoy’s connection with Florida coach Billy Napier and defensive ends coach Mike Peterson, along with the program’s “family atmosphere,” were central drivers in his decision to nix a scheduled official visit to Texas and instead return to Florida this weekend, where he sealed his pledge Saturday.

McCoy has recorded more than 140 tackles and 18.5 sacks in three varsity seasons at Tupelo High School, and his commitment represents a major recruiting victory for Napier and Florida.

McCoy’s signature would mark Gators’ first five-star addition since they landed quarterback D.J. Lagway (No. 8 overall) and pass rusher L.J. McCray (No. 10) in the 2024 class. If he ultimately lands with Florida, McCoy will arrive as the program’s highest-ranked defensive signee since it inked five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson in the 2015 class.

McCoy now stands ahead of four-star quarterback Will Griffin (No. 69 overall) and Friday night running back commit Carsyn Baker (No. 167) as the top ranked of five ESPN 300 prospects in the Gators’ 2026 class. Florida also landed the pledge of four-star wide receiver Marquez Daniel (No. 216) on Saturday, lifting the Gators to seven ESPN 300 commits in the cycle.

Five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro (No. 19) and top-40 running back Davian Groce are among the high-profile visitors joining McCoy at Florida this weekend as the Gators hit the busy summer recruiting period seeking to secure back-to-back top-10 recruiting classes. Florida signed the nation’s 10th-ranked class in the 2025 cycle on the heels of the program’s decision to retain Napier in November and four straight wins to close the 2024 season.
