“I did a good job with that,” she continued. “But I don’t want to congratulate myself too much! He’s his own person!”

Jude is the latest in a growing group of trans kids whose celebrity parents have gone public with their support. A few weeks ago, Airyn De Niro, daughter of Robert De Niro and Toukie Smith, opened up about their life and gender as a “late bloomer” according to her own description. “Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success… I’m like, you know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me,” she told Them of her thought process around transitioning. “Maybe I can start.” She was quickly embraced by fans as well as stars like Laverne Cox who she had namechecked as an inspiration. Her father later released a statement of support.

Marlon Wayans also recently discussed his relationship and journey with his son Kai. He said on the IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson podcast that he went from “denial to complete acceptance, and it took me a week to get there,” But since that process, Wayans has become a staunch advocate, defending Kai against a slur-filled tweet thread by Soulja Boy.

They join the likes of Zaya Wade, Kai Schreiber, and Jackson Theron who are the kids of people like Dwayne Wade, Naomi Watts, and Charlize Theron.

As with many trans people, visibility can serve as a double edged sword, leading to them being attacked by transphobic commenters for doing nothing more than existing. While maintaining his right to privacy, Jude should be protected at all costs!
